New Project: Erinyes Book (models wanted)

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 30, 2008, 1:36 PM
I've been frustrated recently by trying to do collaborative projects with other people, but either being let down by my collaborators (no one on dA, I hasten to add) or let down by technology.

So, I'm embarking on a solo project again - back on familiar territory.

The Book of the Erinyes

I'm creating a limited edition artist's book: photos taken by me, aforementioned photos hand-collaged in each book by me, text hand-printed on a letterpress printmaking press by me, and the book hand-bound by me.

The book's subject will be the Erinyes of greek legend (aka The Furies, the Kindly Ones etc), but portrayed in the style of a late 19th century apocalyptic text written by an opium addict.

Fragments of text will provide a disjointed partial narrative to the artwork rather than an illustrated story. I envision 6 image pages broken up by 1-2 pages of text (and sometimes that text will be just a couple of paragraphs).

I'm also considering adding collage elements to the photographs. I'll have to think before I collage, though, because I'm thinking of doing a limited print run of 20-30 of these books, so any collaging will need to be replicated up to 30 times by hand.

I'll be setting the text using old-style movable lead type at the Brighton Printmaking workshop (where I'm doing a course in Letterpress) so it will have an unevenness that you don't get with word-processed type, reminiscent of turn-of-the-century printing.

And this is where you come in

As usual, I'll need models (and since it's my own project rather than someone else's, I won't have to keep indefinitely postponing the modelling sessions this time - apologies to people who have offered before only to be kept waiting!) so if you fancy being one of the 3 Furies then let me know. The modelling will be fine art nude, but heavily shadowed and textured (for sample mock-up pics see link above).

No modelling experience needed, but models should be in the south of England (I'll pay up to £30 travelling expenses, but the modelling work itself is unpaid). Models will also receive a free limited edition copy of the book when it's finished. If you're interested in modelling drop me a note here ASAP.

Thanks for reading!
